"Aoi Kuruma" (Blue Car), which vividly captures the mood of the mid-1990s (after the Great Hanshin Earthquake), gained immense support and empathy from readers and various circles at the time, and is still talked about today.

A collection of short stories by Yoshitomo Yoshimoto, including the title work, will be published in a complete edition in 2025, exactly 30 years after the first short story was released.The series' final episode, "Rydeen," which was not included in the first edition, has been added to this masterpiece short story collection, which continues to be a best-selling and long-loved manga of 90s youth.

Yoshitomo Yoshimoto
Born March 14, 1964. From Kanagawa Prefecture.
Debuted in 1985 with the four-panel manga "Nikkan Yoshimoto Yoshiaki," which was an award-winning entry in the first manga school contest held by Kadokawa Shoten's shojo manga magazine "Monthly ASUKA." Moved his activities to seinen magazines, publishing "Let's Go Bugeicho" and "Tokyo Defense Force" serialized in Futabasha's "Weekly Manga Action," as well as the short story collection "Yoshitomo Yoshimoto's Collection of Masterpiece Short Stories." Gained popularity for his unique and cutting-edge style.
In 1995, he published the short story "Aoi Kuruma" in Kodansha's "Bessatsu Shōjo Friend" special issue "Girly," followed by a series published in East Press's "Comic Cue" and other magazines, which was then released as the short story collection "Aoi Kuruma" the following year.
His collaborative short stories "Asagao" (with Iwao Kuroda), "Family Affair" (with Seiko Erizawa), and "Kaminagara" (with Yu Nagashima) became hot topics.
After a 10-year silence, in 2020 he published the short story "OHANAMI 2020" in Kodansha's "MANGA Day to Day," depicting Japan's disparity during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is currently available for free on Kodansha's "Comic DAYS" as his representative work.
