"Aoi Kuruma" vividly depicts the mood of the mid-1990s (after the Great Hanshin Earthquake), gaining immense support and empathy from readers and various circles at the time, and is still talked about today.

Yoshitomo Yoshimoto's short story collection, including the titular work, will be published as a complete edition in 2025, marking 30 years since the short stories were first released. This masterpiece short story collection, a best-selling and long-loved youth manga from the 90s, will include the final chapter of the series, "Rydeen," which was not included in the first edition.

First, what I can say is that this will probably be the last time it's released as a physical book. Given the times.

Ever since I wrote "Rydeen," the final chapter of the series, I've wanted to include it and complete the series if "Aoi Kuruma" were ever re-released. This re-release is the realization of that, making it the final complete edition.
It's fine to read it with nostalgia for the 90s, but I also want it to reach unread people and younger generations who have come along during the decade or more it's been out of print. Even if you read it now, it's not affected by being old or new; I think it will simply be received as a good manga.
No matter what era it is, as long as it's steadfastly "Aoi Kuruma," that's good enough, and I believe that's what "Aoi Kuruma" is.

He then moved his activities to seinen magazines, publishing the series "Let's Go Bugeicho" and "Tokyo Boueigun" in Futabasha's "Weekly Manga Action," and the short story collection "Yoshitomo Yoshimoto's Jewel Short Story Collection." He gained popularity for his unique and cutting-edge style.
In 1995, he published the short story "Aoi Kuruma" in Kodansha's "Bessatsu Shojo Friend" special issue "Girly," followed by a series published in East Press's "Comic Cue" and other magazines, which was released the following year as the short story collection "Aoi Kuruma."
His collaborative short stories "Asagao" (with Iwa Kuroda), "Family Affair" (with Seiko Erizawa), and "Kamiminagara" (with Yu Nagashima) became topics of discussion.
After ten years of silence, he released the short story "OHANAMI 2020" in Kodansha's "MANGA Day to Day" in 2020, depicting the disparities in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is currently his representative work and is available for free on Kodansha's "Comic DAYS."
