The vol.185 issue of "Quick Japan," released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will feature a 50-page special on chef Akari Hasegawa.

In an age overflowing with delicious recipes and restaurants, and with diversifying lifestyles, cooking remains something some people "want to do" and others "have to do." What kind of activity can "making one's own food" be considered today?

Akari Hasegawa says she "wants to deliver recipes that make the person cooking feel the most joy." Behind this sentiment is her wish that people regain the sense of choosing for themselves through cooking.

How can cooking be opened up beyond the dichotomy of "a hobby I want to do" and "a chore I have to do," allowing everyone to choose their own distance and involvement with it? This 50-page feature uses her themes as a starting point to reconsider the relationship between cooking and people, exploring what it means to "choose for oneself."
