Chef Debuts on the Cover of "Quick Japan"!
Akari Hasegawa Featured in 50-Page Special
Reimagining the Relationship with Cooking Beyond "Belief"

■Special Feature Details

The issue of "Quick Japan" vol. 185, released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will feature a 50-page special on chef Akari Hasegawa.

In an era overflowing with delicious recipes and restaurants, and with diversifying lifestyles, for some, cooking remains something they "want to make," while for others, it is something they "must make." What kind of activity is "making food with your own hands" today?

Akari Hasegawa states, "I want to deliver recipes that make the person cooking feel the most joy." Behind this sentiment is a desire for people to regain the sense of choosing for themselves through cooking.

How can we open up cooking, not just as a dichotomy between "a hobby you want to do" and "a chore you have to do," but as something where everyone can choose their distance and involvement? This special feature, using her approach as a clue, re-examines the relationship between cooking and people, and in 50 pages, explores what it means to "choose for yourself."

●Special conversations with Akiko Nogi and Hana Kuroki, and an original essay manga by Natsuko Taniguchi

The special feature includes special conversations with artists active in other fields. Scriptwriter Akiko Nogi and actress Hana Kuroki will be featured in two-shot interviews with Akari Hasegawa.

Additionally, an original essay manga by Natsuko Taniguchi (author of "Mame to Mugi," "Jaa, Anta ga Tsukutte Miro yo," etc.) will be included. There will also be a contribution project featuring multiple writers, inspired by Akari Hasegawa's recipes.

●"Akari Hasegawa Recipe Card Deck" set available exclusively at QJ Store!

The cards contain Akari Hasegawa's recipes (32 in total). Instead of asking "What do you want to eat?", this recipe deck allows you to discover an unexpected "dish for today" by starting with your mood of the day, such as "I want to rest," "I want to take a detour," or "I want to try something new."

Shuffle the cards, draw one, and look for a card that resonates with your current self. You don't necessarily have to accept the first card you draw; you can redraw as many times as you like until you find a card that interests you.

〈How to Play〉
STEP1 Shuffle the cards thoroughly.
STEP2 Draw a random card.
STEP3 Look at the "mood" written on the front and the food photo.
STEP4 If it doesn't quite click, draw another card. You can redraw as many times as you like until you find a card that interests you.
STEP5 Once you find a card that you think, "This might be it," flip it over. A recipe that matches your mood for the day will appear.
